Mangaka
Tristan, a 20-year-old Québécois, lands in Kyoto, Japan, in order to make his childhood dream come through of becoming a Mangaka or a Manga artist. In his daily activities, which include manga drawings and some girl hunting, he is often confronted with people’s preconceived ideas, judging him or other people on appearances only, instead of trying to dig a little further into reality. Tristan is, however, extremely persevering and won’t stop at anything or be stopped by anybody until he gets where he wants to get, in his own personal way. To his surprise, he will have to overcome his own prejudices and go through some painful experiences before he can become the artist and the person he dreams of becoming.
Claude Gagnon

Claude Gagnon reçoit, en 2014, la Bourse de carrière Michel Brault du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, quelque 40 ans après avoir débuté sa carrière au Japon où il s’était rendu en 1970, alors qu’il n’a que 20 ans. Il y tourne en 1978 son premier long-métrage Keiko, qui lui procure une enviable notoriété grâce au succès du film et aux nombreux prix remportés.
À l’été 1979, Gagnon revient s’installer à Saint-Hyacinthe où il tourne ses deux longs-métrages suivants avant de s’établir à Montréal. Puis viendra Kenny et son succès phénoménal à l’échelle planétaire.
Suivront la production et la distribution de nombreux films québécois et étrangers par l’entremise d’Aska Films, la société que Gagnon fonde avec sa femme Yuri Yoshimura. Ils produisent de nombreux films pour Gilles Carle, André Melançon, François Bouvier, et plusieurs autres réalisateurs québécois aussi bien qu’étrangers.
Au début du millénaire, Gagnon retourne à la réalisation avec notamment Kamataki et Karakara qui remportent d’innombrables prix un peu partout sur la planète.
